PRA Buxton Branch News

On the 19th June a meeting was held in Buxton organized by the Peak Railway Association to test the level of support in the town for the re-establishment of a Buxton Branch of the Association.

Paul Tomlinson, Project Director of Peak Rail plc spoke at length about both the company’s plans for the future re-opening of the line to Matlock and the difficulties that Peak Rail has experienced in the past 18 months with regard to the possible re-development of the former Nestle’s Water Limited bottling plant land which surrounds Peak Rail’s own site.

The meeting was very well attended and at the end of the meeting there was not only tremendous support for the creation of a new branch but also for the establishment of a site management committee to enable the former Buxton Steam Centre site to be re-occupied for use by Peak Rail .

Ruth George MP for High Peak also attended the meeting and spoke giving her full support to what was being proposed and offered her help and assistance in ensuring that the railway line could be re-opened in the future.
