From the 11th September 2021 we are terminating our online booking system and reverting back to our normal ticketing structure, with either day rover of single tickets being available for purchase at either the Ticket office at Rowsley South Station or on the train.

We are keeping MOST COVID RESTRICTIONS in place throughout September, October and November. Therefore we’re offering pay on the day rover and single journeys from either Rowsley South Station or Matlock Platform 2 ONLY using coaching consisting of either private compartments  or open plan style coaches with covid screens and sneeze guards fitted

To keep everyone still safe we’ve made some changes so your visit will be a bit different to normal.

Note: you will NOT be able to board the train at Darley Dale.

On the Day

All day rover or single journeys will depart from Rowsley South Station or Matlock Platform 2 (All trains will be top and tailed with a Steam Engine on the South end and Diesel Locomotive on the North end of the coaching stock. (Darley Dale and Matlock Riverside Stations will be closed to passenger unless in an emergency).

During September, October and November we will be running a steam/diesel hauled service using a mixture of compartment stock and open plan style coaches (with covid screens and sneeze guards fitted). An altered timetable will be in operation to accommodate thorough cleaning regimes between train services. All trains will depart therefore on return journeys from Rowsley South Station  at 11.00, 12.42 and 14.24 or Matlock Platform 2 at 11.36 and 13.18.

From 11th September we welcome back discounts to our shareholders, members and other supporters. Please ensure you bring your discount of free travel tickets with you on the day.

We request that if you or any member of your party is unwell with any COVID-19 symptoms that you do not attend Peak Rail and follow government guidelines pertaining to public health.

FAQs - Tickets

All trains depart from either Rowsley South and run straight through to Matlock Platform 2 (All day rover or single tickets). The journey will last approximately 1 hour Departure times from Rowsley South 11.00, 12.42 and 14.24 or from Matlock Platform 2 11.36 and 13.18

You will not be able to board the train at Darley Dale.

A maximum of two dogs are welcome to travel with you in the coaches FREE of CHARGE. Please keep dogs off the carriage seats and on a lead when not on board.

From 11th September we welcome back prepaid gift vouchers.

FAQs - On the Day

Round trips will take about 60 minutes boarding at Rowsley South Station or Matlock Platform 2. There’ll be time to take photos, or visit the shop and buffet at Rowsley.

Upon arrival at Rowsley South Station please proceed to the north end of the car park, for passengers arriving at Matlock Platform 2 please use the Pay and Display Council Car park next to the station.

Station toilets will be available at Rowsley South Station. Toilets will be cleaned at regular intervals. Due to the layout of the carriages, there will be limited toilet facilities open onboard the train.

Our usual buffet at Rowsley South will be open with limited inside/outside seating capacity. Refreshments include, prepared sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and snacks.

The Rowsley shop will be open where there is a good selection of gifts, secondhand railway books to purchase and we ask that you pay by contactless card where possible.

 

No. Trains will not be stopping at the station in either direction.

Space is limited on the trains and we recommend leaving prams/pushchairs in the car where possible. We’ll do our best to help if this isn’t a suitable option.

Where possible we’ll do our best to assist anyone with additional needs. Due to the historic nature of the carriages, we’re unable to lift wheelchairs into the compartments. Space for passengers who are unable to transfer from wheelchairs will be available in the Brake Van.

If you need any help on the day please let one of our trained staff know and we’ll do our best to help you.

 

To protect yourself and our volunteers we are politely asking all visitors to still wear face coverings especially when travelling on the train, visiting our shop or ordering food in Rowsley Buffet.

Trains/building are subject to enhanced cleaning and sanitised in between departures and a deep clean at the start and finish of each operating day.

Every effort with be made to provide our services as advertised, sometimes circumstances outside our control may force us to amend the timetable or vary any of the provisions of the train journey. Peak Rail reserves the right to amend or vary without prior notice.
