Due to the latest Government announcement Peak Rail have decided to carry on with our ‘BACK TO STEAM’ tickets on July 31st and the 1st and 3rd of August. Tickets are available online now – follow the link below!
We are keeping ALL COVID RESTRICTIONS in place for for July 31st and the 1st and 3rd of August. Therefore we’re offering pre-booked return journeys from Rowsley South Station ONLY with either private compartments (seating a maximum of 6 people) or social distanced open plan style coaches with covid screens and sneeze guards fitted (either tables for 2 people or tables for 4 people).
From the 7th August we will also be offering pre-booked return journeys from both Rowsley South Station and Matlock Platform 2.
To keep everyone safe we’ve made some changes so your visit will be a bit different to normal.

On the Day
Return journeys will depart from Rowsley South Station and will include a break at Matlock Platform 2 where you can stretch your legs and pose for photographs next to the engines. (All trains will be top and tailed with a Steam Engine on the South end and Diesel Locomotive on the North end of the coaching stock. Passengers may not leave the platform at Matlock Platform 2. (Darley Dale and Matlock Riverside Stations will be closed to passenger unless in an emergency)

During JULY we will be running a steam/diesel hauled service using a mixture of compartment stock and socially distanced open coach stock in line with Government guidance. An altered timetable will be in operation to accommodate thorough cleaning regimes between train services. All trains will depart therefore from Rowsley South Station ONLY at 11.00, 12.42 and 14.24.
Return trip compartment and open coach prices
The following temporary ticketing arrangements are in place and replace all of our other tickets during this period. Compartment seating a maximum of 6 people £36.00 per compartment or Open Coach seating with table, covid screens and sneeze guards fitted for a maximum of 4 people £24.00. From 20th July we will be offering Open Coach seating with table, covid screens and sneeze guards fitted for 2 people £12.00. (These prices are per compartment or table and NOT per person.

As we have priced our tickets per compartment/table rather than per person, offering further discounts/free travel makes it very complicated for our booking system to process. We are however looking at how we can offer discounts to our shareholders, members and other supporters and these should become available in August

FAQs - Tickets & Pre-Booking
All trains depart from Rowsley South ONLY and run to Matlock Platform 2 (return journey). The journey will last approximately 1 hour Departure times are 11.00, 12.42 and 14.24 and tickets must be booked in advance.

The capacity for each compartment is a maximum of 6 passengers. The capacity for each open coach seat is a maximum of 4 passengers. From the 20th July open coach seats for 2 passengers will be available.
Tickets must be booked online in advance. If you are unable to book online you can also book via telephone.
Carers’ tickets and tickets for passengers travelling in a wheelchair can only be made over the phone.

We’ll send your booking confirmation by email. Please make sure you fill in your correct email address when you book to make sure you receive this. If your email isn’t received, please check your Spam Mailbox before contacting us. Before you arrive please have your booking confirmation ready to show our staff either on your phone or a printed copy.

A maximum of two dogs are welcome to travel with you in the coaches FREE of CHARGE. Please keep dogs off the carriage seats and on a lead when not on board.

Due to the historic nature of the carriages, we are unable to lift wheelchairs into the compartments. Space for passengers who are unable to transfer from wheelchairs will be available in the Brake Coach. In this space we can accommodate one party of two people travelling with wheelchairs on each train, with maximum of one wheelchair per party.
Unfortunately using already purchased gift vouchers for normal train travel makes it very complicated for our booking system to process. We are however looking at how we can accept these vouchers later in the year.
Tickets are non-refundable however the date may be amended prior to the booked date of travel, subject to availability. You will need to email bookings at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07340 583317 to amend your booking.
FAQs - On the Day
Round trips will take about 60 minutes boarding at Rowsley South Station. There’ll be time to take photos, or visit the shop and buffet at Rowsley.
Upon arrival at Rowsley South Station please proceed to the south end of the car park.
Station toilets will be available at Rowsley South Station. Toilets will be cleaned at regular intervals. Due to the layout of the carriages, there are no toilets onboard the train.
Our usual buffet will be open with limited inside seating capacity. Waitress service will be in operation until the 20th July. Refreshments include, prepared sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and snacks.
The shop will be open where there is a good selection of gifts and books to purchase and we ask that you pay by contactless card where possible.
No. Trains will not be stopping at the station in either direction.
Space is limited on the trains and we recommend leaving prams/pushchairs in the car where possible. We’ll do our best to help if this isn’t a suitable option.

Please always observe social distancing, we are operating a one-way system. We encourage frequent hand washing, and therefore hand sanitizer stations are available on the platform, in toilets and on the train. After the 19th July Peak Rail will still be operating the same system, with some social distancing still in place.
The safety of our passengers and staff is our main priority. On arrival at Rowsley South Station please have your receipt printed and ready for inspection at the covered entrance at the south end of Rowsley South Station. You will be greeted by our friendly team members who will offer you hand sanitizer and check tickets. Our carriage stewards will be available to assist you with boarding and seat allocation.
Please always observe social distancing, a one way system will be clearly marked out on the platform and in the buildings. We encourage frequent hand washing, and therefore hand sanitizer stations are available on the platform, buffet, shop, toilets and on the train. PLEASE note these practices will still be in place after the 19th July.
We request that all adults follow government guidelines pertaining to face coverings at all times on the station. A face covering should to be worn in any indoor public building, including the Rowsley Shop and Buffet, unless you are exempt as per government guidelines. Please bring a face cover to wear where required. After the 19th July to protect yourself and our volunteers we are politely asking all visitors to still wear face coverings especially when travelling on the train, visiting our shop or ordering food in Rowsley Buffet.
If you are wearing a face mask, you are permitted to remove it to eat or drink and we kindly request that you put your face covering back in place once you have finished.
Trains/building are subject to enhanced cleaning and sanitised in between departures from Rowsley South Station and at the start and finish of each operating day.
Every effort with be made to provide our services as advertised, sometimes circumstances outside our control may force us to amend the timetable or vary any of the provisions of the train journey. Peak Rail reserves the right to amend or vary without prior notice.
