SPECIAL EVENTS 2008

Class 31 Running - 19th July 2008. A chance to clock up some mileage behind 31270. Normal timetable in operation.

1940s Weekend - 2nd, 3rd August 2008. A chance to see how people lived and worked throughout World War 2 and the 1940s. Re-enactment displays by the entrenched Second Battle Group German Infantry, Russian Second Guards, American 508th second armoured division troops and various British Regiment Portrayals. All taking part in a magnificent battle complete with military vehicles, firearms and pyrotechnics. You will find stallholders selling a variety of military and civilian clothing and displays of minefield detection, holidays at home, war correspondants, medical airborne division, make do and mend, children's games, British ammunition and German field nurses encampment. Professional entertainers will keep you singing and dancing to the sounds of the 1940s.

Class 55 Deltic Gordon Highlander Running - 30th August 2008. Calling all Deltic fans, travel all day behind one of the few surviving Deltics in preservation. Normal timetable in operation.

Diesel Weekend - 20th, 21st September 2008. D9016 and 31270, 37152 and D8 in action pulling passenger and demonstration freight trains. An intensive timetable featuring double heading and top and tailing locos. Brake van rides provided at Rowsley by the HST trust with various shunters available on both days. A Diesel enthusiasts must. Special timetable and fares apply to this event.

Class 44 Penyghent running - 4th October 2008. Class 44 D8 'Penyghent' in operation, normal timetable.

Halloween Ghost Train, Spectacular Firework Display - 31st October (evening only) 2008, advance booking required. Its the night of the year to be scared as our ghostly train shrouded in steam pulls into Rowsley South Station and invites you to an evening of spine chilling sounds, enchanting entertainers and a firework display. Fancy dress competition for all ages. A leaflet and further details will be available from 1st September, booking is essential.

Santa and Steam Specials - 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 23rd & 24th December 2008, advance booking required. Santa invites you to join him for a traditional family Christmas aboard our festive steam train. Santa visits every girl and boy bearing quality gifts whilst other members of the family can relax with a glass of mulled wine and mince pies. This year clowns, majocians, all professional entertainers will be on hand to ensure your enjoyment whilst awaiting the arrival of Santa. Santas booking office will be open from 1st October so book early to avoid disappointment. A special timetable will be in operation.

The above fares allow unlimited travel on date of purchase. These fares apply to normal operating days only.

HOW TO GET THERE


Map for Peak Rail By Road :-

MATLOCK - From M1 junctions 28, 29, 30 signposted Matlock. For Matlock station use the riverside walk from Matlock Town Centre, starting from the BR station entrance, at the end of the Crown Roundabout River bridge. Alternatively, use Public car park near BR station/Bus Station. Walk along the footpath at the side of the new road past the junction across the railway bridge to Sainsbury's store, down to the river bridge, where a ramp should give access to Riverside Station.

DARLEY DALE - A6 to Darley Dale (follow brown signs) use DFS car park and a short footpath from the bottom of the car park past the South Yard at Darley Dale to get to the station, or use the station car park (space limited).

ROWSLEY - A6 to Rowsley (best parking) use Peak Rail car park.
From Stockport, Derby or Manchester, again use A6.
From Stoke on Trent A52, then A5035 from Ashbourne.
