Operating a collection of narrow gauge industrial locomotives and carriages the Derbyshire Dales Narrow Gauge Railway is located adjacent to the picnic area at Rowsley South Station. The line has been extended for the 2009 season and all carriages are wheelchair accessible.

One of the locomotives in regular use, BR number 85049 was purchased from British Rail in 1986 (ex BR Chesterton Junction Permanent Way Depot - Ruston & Hornsby 393325 of 1956). Ex BR 85051 (also ex BR Chesterton Junction Permanent Way Depot - Ruston & Hornsby 404967 of 1957) is also used for special events. Another of the locomotives in regular use on passenger services, is Ruston & Hornsby 48DL 487963 of 1963.
